Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections worldwide and constitute a major cause of antimicrobial prescription. Increasing antimicrobial resistance among uropathogens has significantly complicated empirical treatment strategies.Objective: To evaluate the antibiotic resistance patterns of bacterial isolates causing urinary tract infections and identify commonly effective antimicrobial agents.Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted using 250 urine culture reports from patients diagnosed with UTI in a tertiary care hospital. Demographic characteristics, bacterial isolates, and antimicrobial susceptibility reports were analyzed using descriptive statistics.Results: Among 250 culture-positive cases, females accounted for 68.4% while males represented 31.6%. Escherichia coli was the predominant pathogen (61.2%), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (17.6%), Enterococcus faecalis (8.8%), Proteus mirabilis (5.6%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (4.0%), and others (2.8%). High resistance was observed against ampicillin (84%), cotrimoxazole (68%), ciprofloxacin (61%), and ceftriaxone (55%). Nitrofurantoin (82%), fosfomycin (89%), amikacin (90%), and imipenem (96%) demonstrated the highest sensitivity.Conclusion: The emergence of multidrug-resistant uropathogens emphasizes the importance of continuous antimicrobial surveillance and evidence-based antibiotic stewardship. Empirical treatment protocols should be regularly updated according to local susceptibility patterns.
